The Cadets have to take care of business this weekend, in order to set up the epic showdown with MCA next Friday. To avoid distractions next week, CJH moved Senior Night to tonight's game against Tattnall County. The seniors will be honored tonight at 6:00, with tipoff following at 6:30.
This is arguably the best senior class to ever wear a Benedcitine basketball uniform. As a freshman team, they went undefeated and now, as seniors, will lead the Cadets to their first state playoff tournament since 1977 and possibly their first region championship since 1959.
As great as the senior basketball players have been, the senior-led student section has been just as dynamic. Ever since the white-out against Long County, they have created a theme for each home game. Last Saturday was Biker Night. Tonight is Sweater-vest Night and tomorrow night is Boater Safety Night. Next Friday's theme is to be determined.

Boater Safety Night?
The whole "theme" thing sounds kinda fratty to me. Not sure the whole concept of "dressing up" would have gone over well when we were there.
Whatever happened to the good old days when everyone just shows up in normal clothes and yells overtly offensive slurs at the players and then turning around and singing the fight song when the opposing team's cheerleaders come out to do cheers during time outs?
Being that I've never seen this senior class play a basketball game and have never seen what kind of student section the senior class has put out, I can't make a fair judgement on whether this is arguably the best senior class to ever wear a BC basketball uniform. I've read enough and seen some highlights that have impressed the hell out of me though. On that note, I still feel like the 2002-2003 BC basketball team was arguably one of the best to wear the uniform. And we had a helluva student section for every home game. Example: Savannah High. Yes, I may be biased since I was in school at the time. I think you gotta recognize that BC team with Williams, Koncul, McNamara, and Rahal as well. I'm not trying to take away from this team's accomplishments, because making the state tourney and possibly winning the region is a huge accomplishment. One of the best? Possibly. I just think the other 2 teams I've mentioned above could have done the same thing if they played in the region BC does today.
Patrick H, BC is a fraternity. The reason dressing up would not have gone over well is because we would have been to scared to step outside of our comfort zone to do something like that. And the good old days you refer to only occured a handful of times during our four years at BC.
Patrick M, I said they are arguably the best class, realizing that arguments could be made for '03 and '97 as well.
No, I got you Snuffy. I was just throwing my 2 cents in.
By the way Snuffy, you owe me $40. I'll expect it on 3/17/2010.
Each team was really good. '97 had one of he greatest scoring combos in Koncul and Williams. IMO Chris Williams is the 2nd best player ever at BC. The only downfalls of that team was there wasn't much depth off the bench and lacked a slasher. Jeff Jenkins was pretty good but at the time he was only a Sophomore.
The '03 team was good for the fact that there was no weak link. No real star power to the extent of '97 and '03 but there was no real vulnerable spot either. The bench was good but not great.
'10 has the star power similar to '97 with Coursey and Bryan. This years team lacks a pure shooter which has really hurt them in 3 of their losses. Friess is almost the identical player that McNamar was. The depth however, is probably better than the other 2 teams.
Its impossible to say which of the 3 is best. I do think that if this team was in AAAAA they'd have a similar record to the '03 and '97teams. Therefore, I also think the '03 and'97 team would be in a similar spot that this years team is in playing AA.
Spot on, JJ.
We used to have theme nights, except it was only one theme repeated over and over: hate the other team. It worked out pretty well for us. I am sure I may be starting to sound like a broken record but 35-0, PIAA Boys AAA State Champions, and it was our first year playing AAA so we were the smallest school in the classification. Also the highest classification is AAAA in Pennsylvania.
Also, the whole theme thing is a little different, but it seems to be getting the job done. There is a hell of a lot more student support at basketball games now than the years I was at BC, excluding my junior season. I guess being good helps.
I'm not going to argue about the best classes, but the worse classes have to be either '00 or '02.
Things with themes also get the girls involved as well.
"Hey, Jill, want to go to the BC game?"
"No."
"But it's theme night, you get to dress up."
"I'll be there."
Joe, excellent point.
PMac, when Donnie pays up, I will give you your $40.
JJ, great analysis. Unfortunately, I think I only saw one game in '97 and only a couple in '03, so I am not in a position to add any commentary.
That is some weak ass shit, Snuffy. I don't even know why anyone owes anyone any money, but I hate when y owes x money and y says, "I will give you the money when z gives me the money z owes me." In this case you are y.
y?
Have to stick up for my brother in law. 1992 (or 1993?) team beat Savannah High 93-92 in triple overtime at The Pit. They also won the 3-AAAA (A) subregion tourney (back when there was a sub region tourney), beating Savannah High and Johnson along the way. That team sported David Pacink (sp?) who I think went on to become all america at Bama.
Also, did y'all see they are trying to keep BC from hosting tourney? Complete bullshit.
I am planning to go Friday and I know there's a crowd. Me and asauers6 are going to meet at Smoke Station around 5 to pregame for the pregame if anybodsy wants to join.
As for the fratty comment, I tend to side with Snuffy. BC is a frat. It's a fraternity of brothers. That's what makes BC so special. I've been to a few games and the dress up is amusing. If nothing else, it certainly does amp up student/crowd participation.
Not sure how crazy I am about the rap music blaring pregame. Seems kind of thuggish to me.
None of us saw Passink play, but his teams were surely some of the best in the history of BC, as he is probably the best player to ever play at BC.
Also, I think they should play whatever music the players want to hear, as long as they don't play the offensive lyrics. I don't see ACDC, for example, being any worse than Gucci Mane or whatever. And if that means just playing the music with no lyrics, then that's fine too. Take any home court advantage we can get.
