Disclaimer: I am not "celebrating" war in any way. Under these circumstances, it is a necessary evil. Fanatical Muslims can't be negotiated with, because it is clear (after decades of Israeli concessions) that they will accept nothing less than complete destruction of Israel and Western Civilization as a whole. They are no more rational than the Japanese were during WWII. So I feel no guilt at all when I say I think Israel has every right to bomb terrorist groups like Hezbollah back to the Stone Age.
Israel should also be allowed to turn Syria and Iran into glass. Hezbollah is merely an extension of these two dictatorships.
I've been reading the Pope's opposition to this conflict. First of all, the Pope's comment is only a comment, thus Catholics are not bound to blindly agree. There are degrees in infallible teaching, but the Pope's opposition is not a teaching at all, so I'm at liberty to support Israel. Also, PBXVI is known as the "Pope of Peace", thus his first concern is for civilian populations. From all the reports I've seen, the Israeli army is doing everything in its power to avoid casualty losses... while Hezbollah is not.
I hope everyone watched Hannity and Colmes last night. The Israeli Prime Minister, Netanyahu sp?, made a convincing argument. Israel has done its part in "diplomacy" by withdrawing every troop from both Gaza and S. Lebanon six years ago. The day the Israeli army withdrew, Hezbollah announced that the war would continue, which doesn't make sense to me. Israel gave Hezbollah their land back, but no... crazy Muslims don't stop until everyone is dead.
So, as you can see, Hezbollah has attacked Israel not in self defense to "Israeli aggression", but rather only because Israel exists. The only way to stop Hezbollah is to blow them away, which will hopefully occur before the happy-feel-good-liberals of the world make Israel cease fire.
Also, the Iraeli Prime Minister told Alan Colmes last night that their army was not even using a fraction of their capabilities. Israel is not quite the aggressors that people think. The Israeli army is capable of ending the Syria-Iran-Hezbollah problem in two seconds.
I hope Newt becomes President; we need someone who will institute the draft when Iran and Syria start lobbing nukes into Nazareth.
God I hope Newt is elected President, I want to see the draft reinstated.
TC, the combined fighting forces of the crazy Muslims will be well over 1 million.
Our military is extremely bureaucratic (except maybe the USMC.), meaning that the bulk of personnel posses desk jobs that have no bearing on combat. If we were to go to war with Syria, Iran, and N Korea, every man, women, and child would fight... just at the Japanese fought during WWII. So, the US army would absolutely need a draft in the event of WWIII.
But, you are right that as of this moment, the military population is adequate.
