Ever since Will stopped the BC Gottum I haven't been able to really follow, but I would assume AA has been better for our teams. We are pretty small to be competing against the Camden County's of GA and we don't get the talent we used to get.
BC is getting similar talent to what they were getting 10 years ago. The reason we are not getting better results in sports such as football and baseball is because we are actually playing better competition in 3-AAA and 2-AA than we ever were in 3-AAAA. The only major sport we have done better in by dropping down is basketball because that is the only sport Savannah Public schoools are consistently competetive in.
It is true that BC has excelled in Cross Country , Tennis, and Wrestling at the state level because of dropping down. But the bigger sports have taken a hit success wise and due to that BC has not gotten as much attention or publicity as it did by being one of the best in the city.
Weighing the options: AAAAA you become more relevant in the city and compete for local bragging rights, with an occasional run at the state level in the big sports. BC would have above average chances at being successful in the other sports. AA increases the chance of success at the state level. The problem is winning consistently in the major sports is significantly more difficult. Smaller sports greatly benefit while major sports have it tougher.
Because BC should not be satisfied with lowering itself to the likes of Country Day, Calvary, Savannah Christian, St. Andrews, Bible Baptist, and Memorial. Yeah, I may be a pompous a-hole, but why should BC be considered another par Savannah private school?
Like Chuck Anderson once told us whimpering and with tears in his eyes... "Look for a star. Grab it, and don't let go."
Douglass, I agree with you that AAAAA is a much better place to be and you are competing with better talent. My first year at BC we were still in 3-AAAAA and we had the first losing season in who knows how long. 2nd year was another bad year and then we gradually began to drop classifications- still not doing any better because we were playing better teams.
I don't want to see BC compared 2nd to other Private Schools ever- but I don't think we have the talent and depth to compete at 3-AAAAA right now. ...especially with the lowest enrollment in a long time.
I haven't heard any details, but why would Herndon have left if we were getting the same talent we got 10 years ago when we were competing for championships?
If BC would have played in 3-AAAAA last year they would have made the playoffs in football for sure, basketball beat the 3,4,and 5 seeds in 3-AAAAA and would have had a much higher finish in baseball if not made the playoffs.
Its just a preference I guess. Do you want consistent winners against schools you know or a better opportunity to advance in the state playoffs? Either way, the smaller sports are going to do well, its a choice that will effect the bigger ones.

If you don't want BC compared to these shit schools, then don't support the drop down in classifications. And, how little faith you have in BC. The school's talent, depth, and enrollment comes and goes with cycles. Why give up so easily "Chris"?
Sorry guys i wasn't in to start a big fight. It never quite made sense to me why 3-AAA is more competitive than 5-AAAAA in football, that was really my question from the start.
Name switched to Chris because I just put together a blogger profile.
Chris, your opinion is shared by some others and I think we agree we all want whats best for BC. If anything you have played devil's advocate and that only enhances the discussion. It just seems that more people around here favor playing at the highest level for more than a couple of reasons.
Let's not kid ourselves. There is only one "big" sport. If we had a winning fotball season and a losing season in every other sport, nobody would care.
Had BC been in AAAAA this year, we would have gone 8-3.
Also, and I've said this countless times, think of the money we could save by playing at Memorial Staduim for 8-9 games a year instead of having to travel to BFE to play schools no one has heard of. Savannah public high schools agreed to stay in AAAAA for this very reason durng the last reclassification.
As for being too small to compete with the "Camden Counties", Chris, I'm a little amused by your choice of words. Weren't you actually at the game in 2000 when BC defeated Camden County at their house? Camden didn't lose another regular season home game until 2007.
Program successes ebb and flow. If we want to win more games, we need to play better.
"If we want to win more games, we need to play better."
Agreed. Maybe going back to AAAAA is the way to go, but I have two brothers that have moved to BC from local middle schools in the last 3 years. Both times I saw a lot of athletic kids go to Savannah Christian rather than BC. I asked why and they said it was because their football team was better. Maybe going to AAAAA is what we need to differentiate ourselves, but its going to be hard to play better if we don't continue to get talent.
Also, I was in middle school in 2000.
"There is only one "big" sport. If we had a winning fotball season and a losing season in every other sport, nobody would care."
Joe, this Chris is not Chris Lane. And to answer your question, Chris Lane was not at that game. He was supposed to ride with me but backed out at the last minute.
You also made a very good point about eliminating travel costs. That would be across the board for every sport.
I remember that week at the lunch table I was trying to get everyone to go and people were giving me hell about how I needed to "chill out" and how "it's just high school football." I remember calling Ryan as we were walking to the parking lot to tell him the final score. He was with Eden at the time and gave me one of those "yea, okay, thanks, whatever, I'm with a girl right now" responses.
Props to Whitledge though, who bucked the trend and rode with me and TC in the red jeep.

Could someone explain why we would want to go back up to AAAAA?
Can you tell me why we shouldn't?

Very good thought Hank. I'd rather lose to Valdosta than beat Bleckley Co.

Herndon was let go by BC from what I understand.

Snuffy, I remember now. I think he and Whitledge took their GF's to Applebees or something instead.

Chris is a fag.
