According to Savannahnow, BC will stay in AAA until 2008. Such a decision calls into question what the true purpose of BC is. As I have said numerous times before, BC needs to prioritize its goals. Here is the proper ranking:
1. Football (specifically, fielding an undefeated team that plays in AAAAA and doesn't have to recruit). This is like the Alpha and the Omega of everything. If everyone, in theory, is paying $7,000+ a year, we should be able to have the best football program in the coastal empire, hands down. And we ought to treat the freshmen football managers pretty well, too.
2. Military.
3. Basketball.
4. Academics.
5. Baseball.
Staying in AAA certainly helps goals 3 and 5, but it kills 1, and you have to remember that 1 pays for 3 and 5. You can buy all the computers you want and post all of the fancy ads in Savannah Magazine you want, but that doesn't change the fact that the biggest advertisement for the school is Friday nights at Memorial Stadium during the Fall.

Everyone knows that Calvary Baptist has the best football program in Savannah. Let's not kid ourselves here.
Calvary has always been competitive because they have for years trained their high school players to tough it out against the vicious eighth graders of BSS and SJS.
As much as I hate to admit, Calvary does have the best football program in Savannah right now. You could also make a case for Groves, if you consider them part of Savannah.
I think BC's decline is due to a lack of talent and interest, rather than changing classifications. The AAA teams in this area are better than the AAAAA teams, but I seriously doubt BC would have fared any better in AAAAA.
Personally, I like being in AAA. When BC's talent returns, they will fare much better on a state-wide level. I also like seeing the basketball team have some success. The only thing I miss about AAAAA is that the majority of the games were at Memorial Stadium.
70 DAYS TIL MARIST!
Not only does Calvary have the best football program in the city, but you can add baseball to that as well. You know this since they are the 2005 Class A State Champions.
Hell, let's just all meet up for Bible Study at Coastal Cathedral Wednesday Night.
