BC - The Standards Sink Lower

From the Savannah Morning News:

- Megan Matteucci

A botched drug deal and robbery sent a Benedictine Military School student and a McDonald's manager to the hospital.

Cole McEachern, a 17-year-old Benedictine sophomore, faces charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault, police said.

When police arrived at the Wilmington Island McDonald's, at 475 Johnny Mercer Blvd., at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, they found McEachern crawling out of the drive-through window and saying, "I am shot ... they made (him) rob that place," according to a Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police report.

Store manager Kerry Bennett, told police he was closing the store with another employee when McEachern approached with a handgun, wearing a blue and white bandana over his face.

After ordering the employees back into the store, he forced the manager open the safe and hand over the register drawers and bank deposit bag, the report says.

Sometime during robbery, the manager attempted to grab the gun.

The two started wrestling, while the cashier ran outside, according to the report.

During the fight, the manager was shot in the left forearm. He then snatched the gun away and fired at McEachern, the report says.

A bullet hit McEachern in the groin, according to police.

That's when police arrived to find the two injured men exiting the restaurant.

Police recovered a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, two 9 mm rounds and one 9 mm shell casing.

They also seized a backpack full of $2,564 cash and back receipts, according to the report.

Bennett, 35, and McEachern were both taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center.

Once at the hospital, McEachern started to explain what happened. He told police he was at the Benedictine prom on Tybee, when an unknown man asked him to deliver some marijuana, the report says.

McEachern made the delivery and returned to the prom without any money, he told police.

The man was angry that he didn't have his cash and threatened to kill McEachern if he didn't pay up. Then the man recommended robbing the McDonald's, the student told police.

McEachern agreed, so he went home and grabbed his father's gun. He then drove to the restaurant with the man and committed the robbery, he told police.

McEachern remains at Memorial in fair condition, according to hospital spokesman Michael Notrica. He will taken to Chatham County jail after he recovers, police said.

The manager, Bennett, has since been discharged from the hospital, Notrica said.

Benedictine principal Kelly Burke declined to comment on the student, citing confidentiality regulations.

However, she said the school's junior/senior prom was on Saturday night, but it was at the Marriott in downtown Savannah.

The prom was supervised by faculty and parents, who prohibited students from coming and going.

The students were not permitted to leave the event until it was over at 11:30 p.m., Burke said.

If it makes you feel any better, this was on SavannahNow's message board:
"... I didn't read the paper's account but didn't this kid get his penis shot off? I know I heard that somewhere maybe on TV. I know he got shot in the groin and the bullet pierced his scrotum so he is suffering pretty good right now and it will not get much easier."

I wonder if they would have said the name of the High school if the kid went to Savannah High. They need to get that kind of white trash out if BC. Coach Cannon needs to get back on his game.

You're right about the Savannah High thing Tim, but the people on the Savannahnow message board think otherwise. I don't believe BC has done anything wrong yet, they can't control what the little coke heads do at night. There are a lot of things about the story that don't make sense... he's a sophomore (he's not allowed at prom), the prom being at tybee, the lock down, him being 17 years old, etc. But if this little shit does actually go to BC then his ass better go in front of the Disciplinary Board. And if Fr. Jude doesn't kick him out because his daddy sends a big fat check to the priory every month, then the school is going to hell.
Maybe BC should start having background checks on the little pricks along with the drug test.

Why can't we all just be happy and drink beer? Ain't no one ever been shot over buyin' a 6 pack of PBR.

I just couldn't see it:
"Dammit, kid, you didn't bring me back my $3.25."

This doesn't have anything to do with BC kids being assholes, but it does have to do with Savannah going to shit. My brother and some of his friends were at an SCDS party in the Landings last weekend and there were these two kids there that no one knew(I think they were kind of wiggery). So, the kid having the party asked my brother and some the other BC guys to ask him to leave which they did. For some reason my brother left the party early and it's a good thing he did because the next day he found out that those kids(the ones that no one knew) had badly keyed a car, beat up two kids as they were walking back to their cars, and to top it all off they pulled on gun on one of my brother's best friends and the girls that he was with. I mean who pulls out a gun. Thank God that nobody got hurt but that is pretty scary. These kids were obviously not the same person as the one in the article, but it is kind of scary to think that these type of people are among the BC crowd now. Next time someone gets into a fight at a party, the consequences might be more serious than a bloody nose. But the point of this is that BC guys will probably get blamed for this because they always do and it sucks that the name of the school is getting tainted like it has been the past few weeks.

I don't think it matters what BC does, or how hard they come down on these kids. There are always going to be these fuck ups in the crowd that do stupid shit. It's the law of averages.

After reading y'all's comments, I realize that I titled my post wrong. I wasn't implying that I think that this is BC's fault or that they could have prevented it. I was just trying to get across that it's very depressing to know that lowlifes like this kid walk the same halls we did.

BC was the one place that never changed, unlike everything else in Savannah. It was the center of all things normal, but now it's like any other school. Will it be the school we want to send our kids to when the time comes?

They need to institute a student group responsible for upholding the integrity of the school, like The Ten at the Citadel in The Lords of Discipline, to weed out punks like this one.

Its a shame Savannah kids are coming to this, but I have vivid memories of losers all throughout growing up in Savannah. But the line has to be drawn at Seawright Dr.
If modern Science can transplant kidneys and livers, why the hell can it create a "piece of crap" detecting machine to prevent BC from being infiltrated by this scum? And I do remember that the BC system we went to school with eventually worked these "pieces of crap" out of enrollment. Its up to bitch Burke and Darth Jude to see it kept up. I applaude the drug tests, but is there anything else that can be done?
Also, last night over a $2.50 Pint O' Guinness, Pat I were talking about whether this thug in the article was recruited from Beach to play football by "son of a bitch" Brackett. Does anybody know anything about this? If true, this is now the 21,397th reason for Brackett to resign. He's bringing the school down with these thugs, while at the same time raising the tuition for one of the BSS or SJS boys whose current life ambition is to graduate a Cadet. I'd rather see a terrible BC football team than to see a bunch of BC thugs getting arrested every week.
