18th Century Wisdom

Ever wonder what the Founding Fathers would say about the pressing issues of the day??

They told us. Just a few centuries in advance.

Healthcare and other social programs?

"If we can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretense of taking care of them, they must become happy." -Thomas Jefferson

Obama's plan to "spread the wealth around a little bit"?

"The Utopian schemes of leveling (re-distribution) and a community of goods (central ownership), are as visionary and impractical as those which vest all property in the Crown. These ideas are arbitrary, despotic, and, in our government, unconstitional." -Samuel Adams, Brewer, Patriot.

What would they think about all the citizens at tea parties and town hall meetings?

"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be...No other sure foundation can be devised for the preservation of freedom and happiness...Let our countrymen know that the people alone can protect us against the evils of misgovernment." -Thomas Jefferson

I'm leaning towards John Oxendine for Governor of GA. Does anyone know anything negative about him?

He reads to be the most conservative candidate.

I hear he is a drunk and womanizer though... but, I'm not saying that's a bad thing.

Why not Eric Johnson? I remember him donning the rebel flag during one St. Patrick's day parade and it pissed lots of people off so I think I'll vote for him.

State politics is so irrelevant because (unlike NY or CA) we live in a conservative state with a balanced budget amendment, so no matter how "bad" a governor we get, he won't be able to do any real harm and everything will be fine.

This is precisely how the federal government was supposed to work, and did work, up until, say, 1933.

Oxendine is a douche

Governors still prioritize the spending and have a large say in the powers exercised by state governments (which should be a lot more).

I just drove by Miley's house after eating at AJ's and I think Charlie Powers was standing guard out front.

Johnson is good.

He's from the Savannah area, although a cracker.

Johnson did initiate the SSO private school tax credit legislation as a compromise to the school voucher system. Hopefully BC will greatly benefit from this.

Why is Oxendine a douche "Barstool69"?... whose name depicts more of a douche than "Oxendine"

Oxendine used a state plane to go on fundraising trips. His camp messes around with other candidates wikipedia pages. He plagiarizes his campaign emails.

Oxendine took money from a shady PAC registered in Alabama that was traced back to (gasp!) an Insurance companies in Georgia (you can't take money from entities you regulate). He eventually returned all $120 K of it (8% of his total money raised at that point).

Georgia can do better.

I still think HANK in all caps is more douchy...
