Weird. I was just coming here to post a question, so I guess I'll just ask it here. What's the word on this new spread offense? Is it going to work, be a disaster, or hit and miss? I have on idea where my expectations should be for this season. Enlighten me.
All I know is they are going to catch hell Thursday night against Windsor, which has the best QB in the city. I still think they can pull it out but it's certainly no gimme. What happens after that, no idea.
The spread offense is difficult for any high school to run.
The key is a sizeable offensive of line and an accurate QB. This year, BC's o-line is fairly small and inexperienced. I am wary of the venture.
But, one plus is that the offense will be running misdirection plays in addition to the spread. Misdirection is ideal for undersized but quick o-linemen. Hopefully, this will offset any spread disasters.
Not so fast, Hank. The offense BC will be running is a watered down version of the Rich Rodriguez system, which is essentially an option offense run from a shotgun formation.
Passing routes are designed to be short and quick, with the idea of getting the ball in the hands of your best athletes and letting them make things happen.
My main concern with this offense is time of possession. The only reason we beat Windsor, Savannah High and Long County last year was because we were able to generate long, time-consuming drives that kept the other teams' offenses on the sideline.
I'm gonna have to straddle the fence on a season prediction. Best case scenario: 7-3. Worst case: 3-7. It should be an interesting year!
The offense will involve some spread but I have a feeling the offense is still going to revolve around John Williams. He is a very good back.
The defense worries me more than the O. The Linebackers should be very strong. The secondary is the big question not only against the pass but are they capable of preventing the running plays from going all the way?
Windsor will be the best public school team in the city and the QB has SEC and ACC schools looking at him. This game will be a very good indication of where BC is.
If BC's defense can cut out the big plays, I see a 6-4, 7-3 record. Charlton and Tattnall are the 2 clear cut favorites. BC will have to beat out McIntosh, Appling, and Pierce to get in the playoffs.
Jack, I agree that the offense will still revolve around Williams. That is what I meant by saying they would operate like the RichRod system. Most of the plays they will run will be that QB read, where Hunt either hands off to Williams or keeps it around the end.
Regarding the defensive backfield, I hope some guys play both ways.
I Have no clue how the team will look this year, but I do believe BC should go with a Paul Johnson style option....Anyways, I am feeling an 8-4 record..... They will make a suprise run to the second round.

I got you Snuff dog, good to know. I was not aware of the actual game plan regarding the shotgun usage.
I will sleep better tonight.
My only concern is away games. Historically since we graduated, BC has not had much success on the road.
4-6. You heard it here first.
5-5. despite losing 22 seniors this year, bc should be looking good next year if they keep the coaching staff and have underclassmen return.

MAR, I hope you're right. I would love to see us run the CPJ spread option, especially with Summers at QB next season.
Calm down Demont
9-3
