I think we should use this post to take our early picks for the Democratic candidacy. I am going to have to go with Obama. As I was taught in Poly Sci 1101, most of America picks on personality and likeability. No matter who wins, the 2008 elections are going to be the most interesting in our lifetime. I am actually pulling for Baraka from Street Fighter 2 but that's just me.
It's either Hillary or Obama. Edwards doesn't stand much of a chance (for a superb article on Edwards' fallacious populism, read here). While Obama was against the Iraq War from the get go, giving him more street cred with the party base, Hillary has a MUCH larger war chest from campaign donors.
Ultimately, I think Hillary will win the nomination, and the presidency. Neither McCain nor Guilani will be able to successfully articulate any kind of conservative message (because they aren't even conservatives to begin with) that will trump her calls for universal healthcare and more government control of our lives. The Clintons are the most machievellian politicians in our lifetime. They always find ways to win, and if the environment for winning isn't favorable, they will manipulate public opinion to make it favorable. Thanks, educated citizens of New York, for playing your planned part in all of this for the last 6 years.
Someone wake me up when we finally start rolling back the ever-advancing frontiers of socialism in this country, because it doesn't look like that's going to happen anytime in the next few decades.
And finally, Tim, I think Baraka was from Mortal Kombat 2.
Wow. I can't believe I screwed that up. I don't know what I was thinking with the Street Fighter 2. Maybe because I just thought that game was better. Mortal Kombat was way overrated. If it wouldn't have been for Finishing Moves that game wouldn't have even been on the map. Also, point taken about Hillary.
