A Convenient Truth?

This is kind of a hollow post, as it is less about my opinions and more about wanting to get yours. I guess you could debate whether global warming is real or an actual threat by ranting and giving links, but here's what has come to my attention:

Every day now for the past two or so months on Drudge Report there has been some quote from a Democrat about global warming, whether it's about forming a group to study it, or passing some sort of law, or whatever the hell. It doesn't take a complete moron to see the weird sudden interest and alert that's taking place. Did they all go see "An Inconvenient Truth" together and THEN decide, "You know what? Al Gore is right. We're killing the Earth. Let's put a stop to that now, because before Al Gore made a movie, it didn't exist,"? Is this what they're falling back on now to win votes for 2008? It's just awkward.

They're politicians, they will use anything that is getting attention to get votes.

George Will had a good column about this earlier in the week.

This same newfound blame America first urgency can be found regarding everything from fast-food, owning guns, believing there's such thing as a God, etc. Beliefs and freedoms that have been around since the Enlightenment are are for some reason all of sudden being called into serious question simply because Europe, Al Gore, and Borat think they should.

I think it's arrogant to think that we as humans are bringing about the demise of our planet through our menial, day-to-day piddling about. I'll post an article I read but the basis of it is that all the Chicken Littles worried about global warming are only studying a period of about 30 50 years. Of course, during that time, there has been a warming trend during that time, so the trend they follow shows us cooking our planet. This is the same as taking a week in a South Georgia summer and applying it to the entire year. The trend would show an average temperature of 200 degrees by Halloween.

Climatologists, however, study the history of the climate of our planet over millions of years. The consensus is that the Earth heats and cools over time. This shouldn't come as a shock because NOTHING about the Earth is constant. Tides are a perfect example.

Forgive the typos. Also, I'm not going to post the article, it's way too long. Here's the link. Yeah, it's from Canada:

Liberals and Socialists live on fear. Without fear, they will forever remain protesting on university library steps.

The more you are afraid, the more willing you are to give government greater power.

During the great depression, liberals taught that capitalists will starv your children if allowed. That's how FDR gained so much power for the presidency and Federal government.

A liberal professor at UGA forced me to read "Silent Spring." For those who don't know, this one book struck so much fear into America during the 1960s regarding pesticides, that the Federal Government unleashed thousands of laws restricting its use... which of course restricted America's productivity.

Global Warming is the new tool used by liberals, even though hard evidence shows the theory is bunk.

Fear = Big Government = Higher Taxes = Destroyed Economy

Here are the facts and keep in mind this is coming from a Biology major who actually studied this kind of thing. Global Warming is a real thing. There have been many studies that have taken ice core samples that enable scientist to gauge what the temperature was millions of years ago. In a nushell, the data shows that there have been many natural changes in weather over millions of years. Sometimes it's colder and sometimes it's hotter. They then compared these natural changes to changes seen post-Industrial revolution and there has been a very small increase in temperature. We're talking hundreths of a degree here. So, when Al Gore shows you a mountain in Peru that was covered with snow 50 years ago and now is not, that is a bunch of Michael More-esque bullshit. But to say that the hundreth of a degree has or has not influenced the mating habits of minows in Southwestern Florida is hard to say unless there is a specific study on these animals. It is ignorant to think that we have no impact at all on the environment and that we should do nothing about it. But it is also a bunch of crap to tell people that the polar ice caps are going to melt in 10 years and Kansas is going to have great ocean front property. Global Warming is somewhere in between what both the left and right sides are telling you.

So Al gore invented the Internet and melts ice? Brilliant.

I actually wish global warming would hurry the hell up so we could listen to beach music all year round.

Woke up this morning, my head was so bad
The worst hangover that I ever had
What happened to me last night
That girl of mine, she loved me so right (yeah!) (oh, oh)
She loved me so long and she loved me so hard
I finally passed out in her front yard (whoo!)
It wasn't wine that I had too much of
It was a double shot of my baby's love

Double shot of my baby's love, yeah yeah, yeah
Double shot of my baby's love, yeah yeah, yeah
A potion that I had too much of
It was a double shot of my baby's love

It was such a thrill it was hurtin' me (ooh!)
I was sufferin' in ecstasy
She had me turnin' flips and-a shoutin' out loud (yah-hah!)
A sip of her love and I was walkin' one a cloud
One night a week is-a plenty enough
It's a good thing for me they don't bottle that stuff [pop!]
Well, my heart begins to fly like a dove
When I take a double shot of my baby's love

Also, something that both sides forget to tell you is that we have made improvements to that gradual increase in temperature. While the temperature is still increasing slightly, the slope is not as great as it was 50 years ago. I guess we are doing this with lower emissions cars and other precautionary methods on factories, etc.

Let's just focus on the possibility of wearing short shorts and boat shoes all year long.

As awesome as the shorts all year possiblity is, I'm not willing to live in a world without a couple of football games where your only source of heat comes in a flask.
